And bitch
.
A Lot.
I will try to limit this in the future ... oh who am I kidding?! We all bitch and rant about seemingly pointless events/people everyday! I just post it online- for ya'll to enjoy and understand the sheer stupidity that I encounter on a weekly basis!

In other news... a touchy topic

Genetic Research/Therapy.
Go TORONTO!
but I can't help but think about the potential advancements that could arise from Stem Cell Research...
I was watching Michael J. Fox on The View earlier Today and he was discussing his battle with Parkinson's disease and his hopes for future stem cell research.
He brought up a very valid point that warrants some discussion:
do you think that religion should prohibit the needs of scientific research?
Fox referenced In-Vitro fertilization -- citing it as a scientific advancement that also toys with religion ... & yet the outcry is not as severe.

That is ... I hoard and collect junk. I never throw anything out because I almost always find a reason to keep something
This is inherited from my mothers side of the family - the gypsies.

But this year has been different.
After seeing the home furnishings in some of my friend's living arrangements -- I recognized my problem. ANNND fixed it
HERE'S HOW:
1. Donated 6+ bags of clothing/accessories/purses to Value Village.
2. Gave 2+ bags of clothes to my sisters.
3. Threw crap out!
4. Organized my paper work and placed it into plastic containers hidden underneath my bed!
5. Sold tons of dvds/books/c.d's to the BMV (made $100!)
6. Sold shit on craigslist!
7. Downsized some of my furniture by selling it and then buying a smaller version.
8. Got rid of extra glasses/furniture/knick knacks
9. Recycled ALL my old magazines. (This was hard to do... I had 4+ years of In Style/Vogue magazines I was saving for no reason AT ALL.)

It was actually hilarious to see how much shit I held on to. I had plane tickets sitting around from 3 years ago when I went to Florida. Why? I don't know! WHY NOT? The stuff I had a hard time parting with - I gave to my sisters.

I also have some wisdom to share with the blogger-universe:
Every season go through your closet at the beginning and end of it. Look at what you wore and what you really didn't. If something is hanging up there that you haven't put on since 2004 GET RID OF IT! (Unless of course it's something of sentimental value or a timeless/expensive piece).
It may be hard to part with that amazing Bebe top you saved up for 3 years ago, but it's just clothing. AND if you're not wearing it, you're wasting it. Donate it to someone who could really use it. A shelter somewhere perhaps? A thrift store?
You'd be surprised how much you can shrink your closet size by doing this. Every season I have a bag of clothes to donate.
So go in your room and take a hard look at all the shit you're holding on to ... & do something about it!

Who is that?

I had heard that a certain academy award winning actress was going to be gracing a cinema near my hood and decided to try and meet her....
so this weekend i headed up north with a friend to check out some great wooded canadian areas.

that we did-
water, trees, bugs, sun - it was a glorious trip.

we stayed in the sketchiest motel of life, and it cost $80! I think bc we were in the rich area of this one city.

This was the bathroom door in the motel. I wasn't sure if it was semen or blood. either way, i didn't really want to think about it and slept with pants, socks & a hoodie covering my head.

Now this just made me laugh.
TOWN OF MONO!

*IF you look close on top of these rocks, people build little tiny rock men. Kinda like the 2010 Winter Olypmics emblem .. apparently it's a Aboriginal tradition. But the whole time I saw them along the highways I kept thinking ... How did they get up there?*

sometimes i love nature.
but i truly think that I am a bonafide city gal.

NOW!

Yes, I want to talk to somebody....

NOW!

well since you asked so nicely, and politely...
Seriously. What is happening with this nation? Why aren't parents teaching their children common manners and courtesy? A please or thank you?

Or am I just one of the few left? One of the lucky ones whose parents drilled into their brains how to be courteous and treat people with respect.

I do find it quite hilarious how when people are trying to get something from somebody, they act in a rude and inconsiderate manner. People are more inclined to help someone if they are polite and nice.

And also- "NOW" girl ...
FYI: the only person who can speak to me like that is my mother, and chances are she's only speaking to me like that because i'm being a dink and/or ignoring her. And that hasn't happened in about ... 3 years.
don't worry, I gave the "NOW" girl a nice and polite response, where I descibed to her how I didn't appreciate the way she was speaking to me.
and then she hung up on me.

Am I ambitious? Or Just a dreamer...

I've always had low self esteem.
That is something I've come to terms with over the past few years.
Meeting me, one would probably never know it.
I don't really talk too much about it.
But it's there.
I think it's due to a majority of things:
growing up being the tall awkward kid with glasses that none of the guys ever talked to, my brother & his friends making fun of me at school, having beautiful friends that always drove the guys crazy.
As a teenager, I let it get in the way of making decisions.
I had to be pushed by people to do things.
I didn't even want to apply to university because I thought I had a terds luck of getting in.
Only 150 kids accepted into the program I wanted. Why would they pick me?
"Just try and see ..." my mother would say.
And i did.
And i got it.
But since then some things have changed.
I have this whole new mentality if ... If you never try, you'll never know.
And that's what I did for my internship.
I sent out oodles of applications across the US hoping one would bite. One did, but I didn't want it. And the one I wanted the most, The Today Show, never even acknowledged me. I sent two applications. I e-mailed the coordinator.
Nada.
And it's not like I don't have the experience or capability. Because I do. I think it's the whole "she goes to a school in another country that we've never heard of" that scared them off.
it just sucks.
when you want something so bad and you don't get it.
I can't even begin to explain how much I wanted this.
And I was initially afraid to send off my resume because of this.
BUT I have no regrets. I think it would have bothered me even more if I didn't ship it out.
Thoughts racing around my mind .. well what if I had...?
Because if you never try, then you'll never know.

And Everything does happen for a reason.
Good and bad, it does.
To teach us a lesson, to shape us, to show us, to help us grow.
This just wasn't meant to be.
But the good news is, I did get an internship.
One considered amazing over here in my country.
So perhaps someday I'll work my way up to The Today Show and that internship -- just wasn't meant to be.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://breatheandreboot.blogspot.com/2008/08/am-i-ambitious-or-just-dreamer.html' title='Am I ambitious?

http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/470970

I just don't even know what to say about this.

I can't imagine being on that bus. I say to myself -- why didn't anyone throw their luggage at him or a computer or something ...
but then i think .. well shit you're in shock. your instinct would be to run right?

I think WTF pretty much sums that up.
WTF was that man thinking, WTF happened? .. a whole bunch of WTF's that I need answered.

Aileen Wournos is that you?

I forgot all about this and I saw the picture again and laughed. Thought I'd ask ya'll....

So approx. two years ago I, along with my padre Brett, attended this Film Festival red carpet event thingy -- and this creepy woman kept looking at us.

Upon further investigation we decided that she was Aileen Wournos ... the serial killer best remembered from the film Monster where she was portrayed by Charlize Theron.

We tried to take a subtle photo of Brett standing next to her w/o her noticing.Check it out .. the resemblance to Ms. Wournos is uncanny..

but i beg to differ

"Hi - I have to come and drop something off at this off at this building. In the letter they sent me they said that they aren't open until 12 on Friday."

.....

"I just wanted to know what time they opened at today .."

I of course couldn't resist the urge to be a total smart ass...

"Well what does the letter say"

"It says that they don't open till 12 today

....
"mmhmmm"

*dead silence

"So they open at 12 then?"

"WELL IF THAT's WHAT THE LETTER SAYS .. I can't imagine why they would lie to you."

i am afraid...

my current job situation has opened my eyes to something that is plaguing our nation.

lazy young adults

and i don't even think that this generation deserves the title "young adults" because, as my job continues to prove to me, the majority of the young generation are immature and ignorant.

and please note: this ignorance is not just in terms of overall knowledge-
because to some degree we are all ignorant. and we learn and pick up new things every single day.

this ignorance relates to overall laziness. and the wanting-everything-handed-to-me-right-now-without-doing-any-work-silver-platter.

and to think that we all spend such a large portion of our time on the Internet. surfing, shopping, reading, etc.

so why is it, that this new generation cannot understand the concept of research?

there really is no excuse since everything is readily available to us.

"Hi - like is there a marine-biology program at your school?"

well if you visit the universities website, there is detailed information about EVERYTHING we offer at the school. In addition to hours, policies, address etc.

And the impatience thing really kills me. Yes, I can admit that I am impatient at times - but if I know that i'm calling the day of .. or before .. something is due i know why there's a 30 minute wait. questioning that would be plain stupidity. Because again, this said generation waits until the very last minute to do almost everything.

i could really write a book about all the moronic individuals i deal with on a daily basis. and to think that they are in the process of earning a degree...YIKES

i hate to admit this -- but I am actually scared for the day that this generation is running the world. (and please note that I am part of this generation so don't accuse me of being an old cranky adult).

I think it should be noted that I do know quite a few individuals, who are of this age/generation, who do rise to the challenge and actually act like young, smart, research-capable, adults.

So here's to those young lazy adult/kids:
-stop having your parents call your UNIVERSITY for you. Yes parents, time to let the child grow up.
-do your own research. rather than calling a general number, pull out your computer. look online. read about the universities you're applying to. understand policies.
-keep an agenda. that way you'll know what days are important and when deadlines are.
-patience is a virtue.
-common sense ... if you have it, use it. if you don't .. i feel sorry for you. good luck living your life looking like an ass.
-god helps those who help themselves.
they were all dressed up with little sparkly head bands and matching shirts on waiting for a parade to start.

then the trumpets and flags sounded and they ran outside to take it all in.

10 minutes later they came back in .. with tears and frowns on their faces rather than smiles.
why?
the parade was over.

after crying for about 5 minutes I snuck over and offered them some chocolate ice cream.

with chocolate syrup & whip cream.

they immediately perked up -- smiling, laughing .. happy!

we started talking about nail polish, favourite colours and birthday parties.

i love how ice cream can immediately make a child's day that much better.
then i started thinking ... most depressed women turn to chocolate/food/junk to fill the void, perk us up etc.

so is this something we learn from an early age ... from people like me who perpetuate this by offering sad children ice cream? or is this something that by nature we just pick up along the way??

What is a vacation?

So I've just finished another hectic year.
Again I apologize. Sometimes I just get caught up in life and forget to sit down and actually hash out a blog.

So what can I share with you?

I'm not sure if you all know this out there, but my cat has herpes. Yes, herpes. BUT not the STD (or wait it's STI now isn't it) form that we all know from the commercials. She actually has it in her eye and got it via the birth canal and her slutty mother.

Apparently it's quite common among cats from the humane society here. Hmmm....

The vet told me that her eye will act up with she is stressed or uncomfortable. Her left eye gets all gimpy and it looks like she has a lazy eye... and I have to give her some drops

BUT THE POINT IS ... WHAT exactly do cats have to be stressed or uncomfortable about?

And I leave that one up to you to comment about...

vision

I'm going to NYC!

with the city, people, my job, school.
even things like dirty dishes being left in the sink make me snap.
people complain about where they are seated. or complain about getting an A in a class. or about something totally insignificant.
you're bitching to me about your table -- a table? a table. yes, you're going out to a restuarant to eat. some people don't actually have that luxury. so SHUT up, sit down, and eat and enjoy.
it scares me how people today fail to realize how blessed we are in this crazy world.
as much as i complain about life.... i have so many blessings in it.
my amazing mother, my siblings who always make me laugh, and the three amazing girls i live with and feel privileged to call my friends.
